Tomorrow is decision day for me.
By tomorrow evening, I'll likely have finalized my decision on whether I'll get a PS4 or next-gen Xbox first (technically, I'm going Wii U first, but it's already out and I should be getting one soon). And it's all going to come down to games, particularly exclusive titles. I don't care about streaming video or social networking. I have a smart TV and a computer to do all that. I buy consoles to play games and that's it. If I'm going to fork out $400+ on a console, it had better have some good games on it, and that's what Microsoft needs to deliver on. If I'm going to be an early adopter of the next-gen Xbox, they need to have some good exclusives available in those early months. Exclusive titles do still matter, which is why Nintendo and Sony have an edge over MS in my book. I still like me some Halo and Gears of War, but those games might not be present at the next-gen Xbox's launch since we just recently got new entries in those series, so MS needs to either invest in either new IPs or reintroduce old IPs that they've been sitting on (e.g., Crackdown, Rareware series like Killer Instinct and Perfect Dark). If the only thing worth playing on the next-gen Xbox is COD: Ghosts, BF4, and Watch Dogs, well, I can play those on the PS4 as well, plus I'd be getting new Killzone and Infamous, Knack, and early access to The Witness. Sony impressed me with the PS4 announce, so MS really needs to knock it out of the park tomorrow.
If I do settle on PS4, well, if anyone else is getting Destiny for PS4 as well, you'll likely find me there as well, as I'll be waiting either for Halo 5 or for the first price cut (whichever comes first) before I get the next-gen Xbox.
Whatever the case may be, this is going to be an expensive fall. New next-gen consoles plus Nintendo is supposed to release new games from its major franchises (I'm especially looking forward to new 3D Mario). My wallet is already cringing and we still have about 6 months to go.
