In some cases they do. I recently figured out the real star Gliese 777 has to be the UNSC colony called Cygnus, in which the colonists there would call their star Cygnus.
There's many in the Haloverse that do that as well. Arcadia is also called Procyon IV. Procyon is the formal name for Alpha Canis Minoris. So Arcadia can also be called Alpha Canis Minoris IV.
We also know of a colony of Charybdis IX. It would indicate it's the 9th planet out from the star Charybdis, but as yet we don't know what real star represents Charybdis. I'm hoping we can find out sometime so I can add it to my star chart.
