Precursors certainly wouldn't opt to devolve their bodies into simple dust only to regenerate themselves as mindless beasts. I'm sure that each decomposed dust particle from a Precursor could have all of the biological and memory information from each individual. Mind you, I have no background in ancient xenobiology.

Concerning the Domain, I honestly don't think we've seen the last of it or that it ceased to exist after the Halo Array was activated. Ur seemed only as pissed as when he discovered his ex-wife's intentions. He would have been more distraught and unreasonable without the comfort of access to the Domain whilst in the Cryptum.
