Very different isn't the same as TOTALLY different. I see the sound mix as one of the elements developers can justifiably choose to lock down for some of the same reasons that the sound mix is locked down in film.
That said, I see the other side, too. Over on DBO, Cody just gave a pretty good justification for that side in a thoughtful response to narcogen, someone whose take on it is pretty much exactly mine except probably better stated.
I'm always interested in what Cody has to say (and agree with more than you might think). He's one of the brightest people on the b.org forums. There seems to be about four people whose viewpoints he won't curtly dismiss when they differ from his. For the rest of us, all bets are off.
