In Response To: Rats gain sixth sense and mind-reading abilities (General Vagueness)

: rats that hadn't
: been conditioned (taught) on how to make a water bottle work knew what to
: do, with no clues

That is a massive exaggeration of what they've accomplished. I went into the article expected some really freaky stuff, and while it certainly wasn't nothing, it's not like they're passing complicated instructions between brains; they said it was taking seven weeks to get a pair of brains, with a feedback encouragement system, to learn how to slowly send a single bit of information such that the bit could be decoded correctly 72% of the time (note that that's relative to a baseline of 50% which would occur by random guessing). And it was done via a communication pathway specifically designed to bang that particular sort of information across; the brains did not establish their own communication format to each other, but rather to the machine interface.

Again: Not nothing, but also not "they're able to tell each other how to perform tasks."
