In Response To: Re: Mantle = Fascism? (Bry) : The tragic thing is that regardless of assuming any so-called : "Mantle", that is exactly what Humanity is already setting out : to do anyway, albeit through a combination of subterfuge (ONI, including : it's development of bioweapons) as well as sheer might (the Infinity , : Spartan-IVs and the general rebuilding of the UNSC Military). : The UNSC isn't even a democracy. For almost 30 years, humanity was fighting a losing war. Countless defeats, countless setbacks, our colonies glassed, our population nearly exterminated. Seems to me that both resources and public support ought to be in short supply. Where is the UNSC getting the means for this push back? The idea of mankind stepping up as the new leaders of the galaxy is a nice sentiment, but it's completely wrongheaded from a storytelling perspective. We should be promoting re-expansion and peaceful coexistence. The Infinity should be a colony ship, not a battering ram. The Prophets are gone. The Elites need to put their own house in order. The Jackals are more interested in commerce than combat. Grunts, Drones, and Hunters would probably be happiest just minding their own business. The Brutes, presumably, have been bombed back to the stone age (again). Yes, the Covenant are fun to fight. We've been fighting them for the past five games, six if you count Wars. And the Prometheans don't really add anything new to the mix. Knights are basically just more frustrating Elites, now backed up by two different types of Goddamned Bats. We could even have kept the Covie weapon set in the new trilogy as a sign of peaceful trade. No need to keep beating that dead horse. And 'tension between uneasy allies' is a much more interesting story angle than 'shoot all the hinge-heads dur hur'. Sorry, that turned into another rant. *sigh*
