In Response To: Re: My H4 review - Campaign (Gameplay and Story) (Avateur) : Bry brings up a good point, as far as "realism" goes in terms of : pushing buttons while still clearly moving/turning/holding guns, but as : we've seen in Halo games, sometimes realism needs to go to keep things fun : or to keep the flow of gameplay moving. I'm not so sure that was a good point though, given the apparently dubious implementation. In H1 there's no pressing animation but that doesn't feel like a significant shortcoming, because a control panel press would be such a quick operation. In my mind, pressing the button on my controller is the operation, and it's over in a flash. In H4 however, your physical press causes an animated press potentially done only after considerable delay and jarring teleportation (going by what I've been told). Two significantly separated presses occur, hindering the mental identification between them. In addition, the long delay until completion might feel unrealistic in itself, let alone the nasty teleportation and the brief feeling of having yourself manipulated by outside forces. By the sound of it, I'd say the simplified snappy H1 implementation is much preferable. However, if the animation approach could be improved to the point where the animated action occurs almost the instant you use the controller (so your mind can identify your physical press with the animated press) and is finished with fast, and you notice little or no outside manipulation of your person, ok then maybe you've got an improvement on the old simple approach.
