The Gym v2.0 *IMGs* *VID*
Posted By: Schooly D <schoolyd@teamschoolyd.org>Date: 11/18/12 9:18 p.m.

Hello everyone. This is your boy Schooly D with some very important questions for you: can you remember the last time you pulled off a clutch mid-air snipe on a boosting Ghost? Can you remember the last time you threw a perfect grenade to seal a 50-49 victory? Can you remember a time when your Halo skills alone were enough to make the ladies go "ooh?"

If you answered "no" to any of these questions then you should pay very close attention to what I'm about to say:

You suck at Halo.

But fear not! I, Schooly D, have returned with another stellar TSD Production to keep you up on the leaderboard and out of the retirement home.

The Gym v2.0 - A map for training skills
A Team Schooly D Production

Similar to The Gym from Reach, The Gym v2.0 is a place where you and your friends can practice your Halo skills. "Focus" is the watchword at 343 Industries, and in keeping with that spirit we've set up a number of stations to focus your training efforts for maximum benefit. It's the perfect place to warm up before an upcoming night of matchmaking, or just to idle around listening to the soothing sounds of waterfalls and far-off explosions.

Station 1: Moving targets

Returning from Reach is a fan-favorite: snipe the fusion coils as they jet across the sky! Hone those patterns for those times when you absolutely, positively have to snipe a dude out of a Warthog while he's getting away with your flag.

Station 2: Battle arena

For those times when target practice won't do and you need someone shooting back at you, we've constructed a small arena for you to battle your friends! This spartan SPARTAN arena doesn't have any frills and distills combat into its purest essence. While you are invulnerable on the rest of the map, inside the arena you are inside a trait zone of 500% damage resistance, so spectators need not fear as long as they stay outside the ring. Near the ring, also, are an assortment of Human, Covenant, and Forerunner weapons so you can choose your preferred tools of school.

I like to watch.

Station 3: Strafe and shoot

There's an old adage in boxing: move your head or the other guy'll move it for you. Well at this station you better move your ass or the oncoming torrent of debris will move it for you... right off the platform and into a watery death.

Turn and burn

Shoot the golf balls off the blocks while dodging the debris!

Station 4: Shooting range

This one's easy: pick up a gun and shoot targets. No time limit and no pressure except that which you put on yourself. There are three distances for you: Sniper, DMR/BR, and Magnum. Train scoped, unscoped, strafing and still.

Station 5: Grenade range

Everyone knows that grenades are for norbs. They're the last gasp of the damned: losing a fight? Don't go down with your pride, chuck that shit in the form of a frag grenade and hope for the best! But sometimes it helps to understand your enemy, and to that end we have this grenade range. Try to hit the mines directly with the grenades, or try to blow them up by landing the grenades on the platforms. Either way, hold your nose.

Station 6: Close range combat

There's no CQB helmet in Halo 4, but that doesn't mean there's no CQB in Halo 4! Step into the octagon and try to blow up the surrounding fusion coils as quickly as possible!

Station 7: Light vehicle track

Similar to grenades, vehicles are only used by idiots. However, also like grenades, vehicles sometimes have their uses, and it's important to be prepared in the event such a circumstance befalls you. In the rear part of The Gym is a small elliptical track along with a Warthog, Mongoose, and Ghost for you to practice your tight maneuvers.

Station 8: Banshee course

The Banshee is the Pro M-O. This is undisputed. But it also requires peerless skill and authority to operate effectively. Up above The Gym is a (again, small) Banshee track to practice your aerial prowess. Guide your Banshee through the four "gates" as quickly as possible! For bonus points, destroy the wooden pallets embedded in the gates before blowing through.

Come on, Mav, do some of that pilot shit!

Video demo

And that's that! Unfortunately, I don't think 343 has a file browser up yet so I can't link you to the map/gametype. If you'd like to download the map, it's on my file share (GT: Schooly D) along with the "Training" gametype for optimal use.

Until next time,
Schooly

P.S. keep your eyes peeled for upcoming ULTRA MLG maptypes guaranteed to knock your socks off
