(GrimBrother One) Rendering argument is irrelevant; it is perfectly possible to do a faithful next-generation interpretation of an object without "artistic license" creeping in, and we have seen it done in Halo before. Classification argument is articulate, but irrelevant. I understand that aliens wouldn't have exact Earth-analogues, even as far as categorization goes. And yes, something the size of a Grunt with an Arthropod's circulatory system would be ridiculous. But we're talking about a species that has had a biological feature that's not there anymore, something that's a lot bigger than an extra toe or a different shape of the head. Honestly, I wouldn't be as upset by this as I would. I can get behind an alien whose carapace softens to a leather-ish consistency when it doesn't get enough selenium in its diet. The problem is, 343i's artists have taken their liberties, and the result is unappealing. It calls to mind cave trolls or Locusts. It's, well, generic, and 343i can do better.
