In Response To: Re: Who's the writer for Halo 4? (General Vagueness) : So, is he the main writer? If you can't tell me, can you at least tell me, : well, you have a main writer, right? I don't know how you could pull off : any kind of substantial story and expect it to be good without some kind : of guiding... I don't even know what to call it. too many cooks, : basically, that's my concern Making games is a team sport. There's a team of writers and narrative designers working for Armando and lots of people contribute ideas, but the longest-standing member of the team and the writer who has had the most impact on the story (created the original draft of the Halo 4 script and has been writing on the game since) is Chris Schlerf (@schlerf). Brian Reed (@brianreed) joined us midway through the project and has also been instrumental. Telling effective story in a game like Halo 4 is a complex challenge. You have a high level franchise story plan and canon that needs to be respected, you have creative direction for the game that helps shape the story, and you have a constant marriage of storytelling and gameplay. The latter is carefully managed by the Narrative team, working with the other stakeholders to ensure the right balance. Ultimately there is a clear structure for creative decision making, but the best ideas come from all over and it's usually a matter of choosing which ones fit the creative vision (or not), which to incorporate and how. We are lucky to have such a talented group of writers & narrative designers at the studio, who all care passionately about the Halo universe and are working hard to ensure that we are delivering on the story we aspire to tell. I hope you that guys enjoy it when we're done. :-)
