Try my newest Firefight Survival gametype!

Still plugging away at this. Never seem to have enough time in the day...

Survival 2012 is the so-called 'master' gametype for the two sub-gametypes:
30 min Survival' - 30 minutes, 15 lives, no set limit.
Hour Survival - 60 minutes, 25 lives, no set limit.'

It's comes with options set for 30 min survival but all the waves and other settings are there, so you only have to change two things to get Hour Survival.

Dropships ON (except wave 1 to get you straight into the action). Hazards ON. Weapon Drops OFF. Ammo Crates OFF. Friendly Fire OFF. Player Immune to Headshots (this is my only 're-balancing' suggestion to the core game).

Loadouts:

  • Sprint, DMR, Sniper Rifle

  • Armour Lock, DMR, Spartan Laser

  • Camo, DMR, Shotgun,

  • Dropshield, DMR, Grenade Launcher

  • Hologram, DMR, Plasma Pistol

Difficulty suggestions:
4 Player Matchmaking - Heroic.
Strong 4 player Teams - Heroic with 5 Lives or Legendary with 15.
Solo or 2 players - Normal
Strong Solo or pairs - Heroic, possibly reduce lives as well.
3 players - Heroic

Skull progression:
Round 1: Catch & IWHBYD
Round 2: As Above + Tough Luck & Cowbell -
Round 3: As Above + Famine & GBP

Catch being first gives you a plentiful supply of grenades for the entire duration of the game as you deal with your much more limited ammo, and leaving Tough Luck to the second round allows weapons like the Needler (which enemies dodge a lot with TL on) to be more useful as you're starting out. Famine in the final round requires players to really start to be conservative with their ammo and be smarter with their weapon choices. If they can't handle it, they'll be burning through lives and might not get to experience that sweet bonus round.

Silver skulls for 'teh funz.'

In the spirit of 'Survival' I decided to do away with set limits since 'surviving' a single set is kind of anti-climactic. If you're good enough, and fast enough, you get rewarded with more waves, with more enemies, and hence more credits. Lives must be limited still otherwise there is nothing to survive, and Time is limited since difficulty can't scale indefinitely and in an MM context the uncertainty of how long the game will last leads to players just quitting and not wanting to return.

Fictional premise? It's Reach. The end is coming inevitably (in 30 minutes or an hour) and now all you can do is simply try and bring as many of the Covenant down with you. Think Lone Wolf - Objective? SURVIVE. Ultimately impossible, but you can have some fun trying.

Bonus rounds
Hard Bonus rounds? Lawl. You've just been working your ass off for an entire set! In my Survival gametypes, Bonus rounds give you double ALL your traits (double speed, double jump, 2x shields, 2x damage etc.) with only Black Eye on to temper your awesomeness.

Still single enemy: in the order Brutes, Elites, Elite Generals. Very unlikely that you'll go up against the Elite Generals, but if you're keeping a good pace in Hour Survival you will hit the all Elite Bonus Round. Be sure to grab a hammer from the Brute Chieftains for the Brute wave, and an FRG from the Generals for the Elites before hand!

p.s. I'm not sure the 'ordered' wave selection works exactly as I expect: I got a squad set for wave 4 of main waves in the 2nd wave. But even still, this shouldn't throw off the balance too much, and if anyone does know exactly how this setting works, please let me know.
