Coming soon: Hornet Paperweights!!
Posted By: Mid7night <m7@x-plane.org>Date: 9/2/11 5:03 p.m.

Some of you may remember when I made Halo-dog-tags using Shapeways.com...ok maybe not, ANYWAY...

So I have this 3D-model of the H3 Hornet that I made for flying around in X-Plane, and I thought, "I could probably make a static, somewhat simplified model of this". Why? Why to MAKE ONE OF COURSE! XD

I just ordered two for myself, one in gray plastic and one in Stainless-steel. It takes a while to make, so I won't get it 'til like Sept 22nd, but I just had to share the funness!!

FYI: I make NO money from this, just like with the dog-tags. If you order you are simply paying for the cost of the material and Shapeway's time to build the models.

Dimensions are:
3.02" long x 2.80" wide x 1.37" tall

Click here to get a Hornet of your own!

You can get it in a variety of colors and materials, but here's the quick rundown of options I would pick:

White-Strong-Flexible Plastic (WSF): $15.12 (€10.58)
(Plain white nylon plastic, really strong, can be dyed)

Black-dyed WSF: $20.16 (€14.11)
Red-dyed WSF: $22.07 (€15.45)
Indigo-dyed WSF: $22.07 (€15.45)
Dark Gray-dyed WSF: $22.07 (€15.45) ( <-- one I ordered)

FYI: Shapeways has a minimum order-price of $25, so for any of the above options you'd pay $25 regardless. So the best deal would be to order 2 of the first one (WSF) and you'd get two models for $30.24.

Now for the FUN materials:

Frosted Ultra Detail Plastic: $36.69 (€25.68)
(This will have the best surface detail and finish)

Stainless Steel: $90.80 (€63.56) ( <-- other one I ordered)
Antique Bronze Matte: $88.72 (€62.11)
Antique Bronze Glossy: $ 88.72 (€ 62.11)

Yeah the metal is expensive, but what a COOL paperweight! :P

I don't know how this compares size-wise to any of the mini-figures out there, but the basic WSF plastic version could be scaled up a bit without costing much more at all, if anyone is interested in having a kickass Hornet for their collection! Any input on scale is appreciated.

Rest assured, as soon as these arrive you'll be getting plenty of pics and vids. :-)
