| Reconciling the T&R and the cruiser in "Keyes" | |

For a long while this has bugged me, and it feels good to get this out and document it. It seems that the basic belief is that the cruiser you visit in the level "Keyes" is the Truth and Reconciliation, the ship you of course board in the level that shares it's name. I believe that's not the case, and here's why. Exhibit A: Doorway to the Hanger on the "west" side of the Command Room. The left is from "Truth and Reconciliation", the right from "Keyes". The obvious difference, besides the hole in the deck, is that "T&R" opens onto the 3rd level of the hanger, while "Keyes" opens onto the 1st level. That's not all... Exhibit B: Two more screens, images are as above. These are taken from the "east" side of the Command Room, facing down the hallway towards "Truth and Reconciliation's" brigs, the Command Room is just off to the left. As you can see, the right image from "Keyes" has the corridor turned abruptly to the right, whereas T&R has the corridor continue further down and turn left. Stephen L. provided the following renders of the two ship layouts, from which I isolated the relevant areas. As you can see, they are not the same. The corridors and Control Room of the Truth and Reconciliation (on the right) connect with the THIRD level of the Hanger Bay, while the layout of the Unknown Cruiser has those exact same corridors and Control Room on the FIRST level of the adjacent Hanger. Then, at the bottom of the images, you can see that the T&R has a hallway that continues down and turns to the left, but that UC has a very short hallway that turns to the right. These are the two most striking differences, and there may be more, but I'm not sure how many other areas of the ship we would have revisited. If you have any doubts, check it out for yourselves. Now, as for references made in the game and "The Flood" by William C. Dietz, this is what I've come up with. Both in Halo CE, and "The Flood", Cortana never refers to the name of the ship, only calling it "this cruiser", or "the cruiser". The only mention of the name with regards to this ship was the chapter heading (Chapter 11, page 288). We know that Major Silva and his Marines commandeered the T&R at the end of the book, and had made passing mention of Chief's actions in finding Keyes. However, they never make mention he was aboard the T&R just before them, and it's also stated that the status of the Gravity Lift is the pretty much the same as during the initial mission to free Keyes, which it was decidedly NOT when you use it to re-board the ship in "Keyes". (References here: T&R Grav Lift from Halopedian, "Keyes" Grav Lift) That leads me to these conclusions. A: They are not, in fact, the same ships, and Dietz erroneously called the Unknown Cruiser the "Truth and Reconciliation" because that was the only ship ever mentioned in the game.
Hopefully all this makes sense and gets my points across. Thanks again to Stephen L. for the renders and Bungie for what still remains the best game in the series
