So I was in the shower just thinkin, hey, how hard could it have been to make the events of Reach flow into one another?
Let's give it a go shall we?
- There's a downed comms array, and we need to investigate.
- We get there and a cloaked Corvette reveals itself! It drops units on us in a flurry. The Covenant are on Reach, holy shit!
- The Corvette retreats! What? The Covenant don't retreat! ...It's heading for ONI Sword Base!
- We get to ONI Sword Base, meet Dr. Halsey who tells us that we've found something down here... and the Covenant... are searching for it *gasp*
- Interrupted! The base is getting bombarded to hell, we gotta take this thing out; we take out the Corvette as we normally do, and the Assault Carrier shows up. Son of a bitch!
- We need to take that thing out, so we devise the plan as we normally do, and get up there.
- While we're up here, (whether Noble team meets him or not, I'm not sure) we find out that the Arbiter, then Thel 'Vadam, is the one tasked with finding whatever it is that's down there, and we learn just a wee bit more about it; whatever it is that we found, it will turn the tide of this war!
- We take out the ship as normal, Jorge dies, we get tossed off the ship etc., the difference? Noble Team has no idea we survived.
- We land in New Alexandria. The city is blown to hell and in shambles. You help evacuate the survivors that you can, and help the local troops bust down whatever it is we did. Generators? Whatever the heck we were doing, who cares. We finally establish contact with command.
- We link up with the rest of Noble, who gets to do the whole "Goddamn, I thought we lost you" and Six gets to do the "Man... we lost Jorge" at the same time; heartwarming.
- But the city is getting glassed! Kat dies as usual.
- We high tail it to Sword Base; Dr. Halsey needs us, and what she's found is revealed, there's a goddamn forerrunner building or whatever down here.
- While we're rewriting for a flow of events, why don't we fix some canon while we're at it?
- She needs you to get this data (not Cortana herself) to the PoA that's up in orbit; so you high tail it to a Saber for a bit of a vertical Maw run.
- Maybe the rest of Noble team fends off hordes of Covenant as you mount up... and as you're lifting off, they're getting glassed. ...One final stand as you rise from the ashes of hell.
- Maybe you fly through some banshee/hornet dog fights, maybe you shake off some Serpahs on your tail. Hell, maybe another member of Noble is going up with you and sacrifices himself to let you make it. *cough*Carter*cough*
- You reach the PoA, dock, and deliver the package to Captain Keyes who is in the nostalgically-rebuilt-in-the-Reach-engine bridge.
- Fuck! The PoA is under attack, we need you to hold off the Carriers so the PoA can jump. Maybe we get to hear Keyes initiate the Cole Protocol Article whatever. Hells yeah.
- We hold off the cruisers and the ship jumps, but we're damaged or something in the process and, as the ship jumps. Our Saber seems to fall back to earth... dead in the water. Ambiguous! Is Six dead?
- Cut to PoA at Halo. Nostalgia to the max, and Credits roll. Maybe a legendary ending shows the Arbiter arrive as well. Cool new perspective on the original Halo events!
- After credits, we see a burning wreck of a Sabre. We bust open the hatch and Lone Wolf it up.
- *Tear*
It's rough, and I thought this up on the spot. But see how things could have actually flowed into one another? Reach wouldn't have felt so disjointed...
