Im sorry if I dont remember, but I havent been in the Spartans for that long. Why did the Lekgolos ever break up. Theyve been inactive ever since the Humpday challange against Bungie. Ive heard a bunch of crap that their overlord just plain abandoned them and a staff was elft in charge of the whole thing or something like that, but Im not sure. Could somebody please explain this to me? And would it be possible is, given the right amount of people, we could revive the Lekgolos?

Lekgolos: The Full Story

Well, I'm probably the best person to answer this question since I was the last real staff member of the original group.

nof was our overlord for the entire time. Around Mid-March, he got really, really busy and no longer had time for Xbox Live. He still called the shots, but was just never online. By early April 2005, Lekgolos had gotten too big too fast (call me a stats freak, but I made this graph a while back to show the point to the others). I think the high was around 65.

The core group of 15 or 20 of us were just swamped with new people. As a staff member, it became increasingly hard to manage this influx of people. Had they not come in one big wave, it would have been much easier to manage. That's why I think the Helljumpers have been so successful. New members haven't really come in droves and were assimilated by the group rather easily. This way, pretty much everyone knows each other and play well together (Hint: Don't lose that quality guys). I like to think Lekgolos was like the Helljumpers before the "wave."

By late April, about a week before Humpday, nof appointed four staff members to co-lead the group since it was becoming increasingly clear that he didn't have time to call the shots anymore. To top it off, he couldn't get into his XBL account because a credit card error caused Microsoft put a hold on the account. Thus, of the active members, there was no one that had overlord powers.

Anyway, the four leaders were myself, Arashi90, BigJoe38025 and Retsamolah. We made some new rules in an attempt to fix many of the problems we were facing (link: the rules). Humpday was fast approaching and we got together to pick the members that would play. The factors involved were longevity in clan, seniority in clan, and (to a lesser extent) longevity at HBO. A lot of people were disappointed that they were not picked and I think it contributed to the eventual downfall.

Everything came to a head one night when we were "practicing" for Humpday. There was an argument and (not naming names) a core member left the clan right then and there. It was clear that things were falling apart. We played Humpday on May 4th and afterwards everyone pretty much went their separate ways. Of the four staff members in charge, I was the only one left a week after Humpday. There were only around 30 members now. As timing would have it, I was in the midst of final exams, papers and moving out from my university. Knowing I wouldn't have internet access for a little bit at home, I appointed a of the remaining people to staff, Aurora as "leader" and left the clan at other former-Staff members urging. It just wasn't fun anymore.

Aurora held down the fort until a few days ago when KP broke it down completely. Membership continued to drop and Lekgolos was functionally dead.

So there you have it.

I'll probably go join the Spartans when I get home from vacation. As for Prometheus, it looks like he went off to join the rest of the staff.

And as for restoring the Lekgolos, I doubt that that will ever happen. When everyone left, they talked about getting back together in the fall, but membership continued to drop. We had 23 members about 3 or 4 days after Humpday. About half of them left by the end of May. I thought about shutting it down then, but I decided to keep going until we had 7 members. We reached this point in late June, and I decided to tell KP that we were effectively dead (He had been of this opinion for quite some time). I guess KP thought it over, and decided to take out the Sentinels too.

I'm really not disappointed at all that we're gone; since May I rarely saw anyone other than me on in the clan.

And on a closing note, does anyone else find it ironic that while two clans were deemed 'inactive' and done away with, another has a waiting list to join it?

One thing I think contributes is that all of the world excluding the US is intended for HJ and the US shared 3 clans. I think it's mostly a population issue.

Not really, the 3 clans left are all active in various forms. The Forerunners are pretty much self-contained on their site where they have content and all that good stuff, the helljumpers are absurdly active on the forums and the spartans are really active in membership (continually around 70, and I frequently clean it out) and I guess online (always someone to play with). The Sentinels and the Lekgolos both had similar downfalls for similar reasons, centering around selfishness and a lack of respect for leadership. Must get off internet now, late.

I love how you refuse to acknowlege him as a leader in the former lekgolos Prometheus. Why do you think 3/4 of the clan left when he left? Because he had more influence and respect than Joe, Arashi or you combined. Like KP said, the only reason the Lekgolos fell apart was because of selfish people. AkA your beloved leaders...

P.S Clans, please respect eachother equally. Wu preaches antieliteism, if thats even a word, and i think we should all do the same.

How about you man up and attatch a name to that post if you're going to make an accusation like that. Confused

Secondly, if by 'him' you mean nof, let me tell you I have complete respect for the guy. And how I refuse to acknowledge nof as the damn leader? He appointed us as virtual stewards until he got back from certain personal endevours. Under your logic, you're saying it would be better to leave the clan leaderless? And three-fourths of the clan didn't take off when he did. We had a 60 man crew the night of Humpday, but that number fell shortly after. Get your facts right.

In retrospect, it was probably not the best idea to appoint four members to lead the clan. I'll give you that. That may be the root of a little of the 'selfishness.' But from my angle selfishness did not play that big a role in the outcome as people may be saying. Yes, people might have been upset that Rets, Joe Arashi and I took four of the 12 spots in the Humpday. From my position though, we earned it. We were all there from the beginning, eventually promoted to staff, and worked hard to make sure the clan runs as smoothly as possible.

The word is egalitarianism, guest, not antielitism. Egalitarianism is the driving ideal behind the Declaration of Independence, that everyone is created equal.

Equal? Pfft. Keep believing that. Naiveté is the driving force of America's purse.

Anyways, I was originally going to join the Lekgolos, mainly due to the convenience of the timezone, but when I never got an invite or forum reply, I switched to the Spartans. And even though the Spartans have a ton of members, I don't see more than maybe 5 or 6 online whenever I go online. :sigh:

At least Lethal and misteryellow are constistently present and willing to play a game.
